About Dravida
DrΔvida is New York Cityβs first South Asian and Indian diasporan restaurant, celebrating the food and stories of communities shaped by migration- from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to Trinidad, Guyana, South Africa, Malaysia, and beyond. Rooted in tradition and driven by creativity, every dish tells a story of home, memory, and belonging.
Dravida is an indian restaurant in New York, New York. It is listed at 211 1st Ave, New York, NY 10003, which places it among the local businesses of New York that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
This group covers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and other Asian cuisines that are not Chinese, and the etiquette varies by kitchen. Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Card and tap-to-pay are widely accepted; cash-only is more common at small family-run counters.

New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in New York peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

A beautiful celebration of the Indian diaspora through food Dravida was such a wonderful dining experience! We absolutely loved the concept of celebrating the Indian diaspora through food, with dishes inspired by different communities, regions, and influences. Every dish felt thoughtful, creative, and full of flavor. Our feast included: * π₯₯ Doubles * π Smoked Peach Lassi * π Tomato Choka * π« Khameeri Roti * πΏ Seasonal Veggie Idli * π Coconut Rice * πΆοΈ Datshi, which was absolutely delicious and our standout dish * π₯¬ Shukto * π₯ Mango Lassi Soft Serve * π« Black Forest Cake I loved how Dravida takes familiar flavors and dishes and tells a much bigger story through them. The food beautifully reflects how Indian cuisine has traveled, evolved, and found new expressions across the diaspora. The hospitality was equally wonderful. Elle, our server, was absolutely amazing: warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely lovely throughout the meal. We were also lucky enough to have Chef Aarti come by our table, and she was the most adorable, warm, and gracious host. Meeting her and experiencing the passion behind the concept made the evening feel even more personal and memorable. β€οΈ Beaut

I will try to capture our poetic experience in words.. Had a wonderful dining experience at Dravida! The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of authentic flavors. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with great attention to detail. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive, and the atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Itβs clear that the team takes pride in both the food and hospitality. A fantastic place for anyone who appreciates great South Asian flavors.. I would definitely recommend Dravida and look forward to visiting again! Now to Chief Aarthi, Thank You for pouring your heart out and keeping your dream alive. Each and every dish had a splash of love and authenticity. From the first bite to the last, its very clear you understand, appreciate and respect flavors and own your craft. It was a pleasure meeting you!! β‘β‘ P.S My mouth is watering as I type this.. so we may just have to come back tomorrow.

Had a great dinner at this fascinating concept of a restaurant. Chef Aarthi's takes on Indian diaspora foods. We had the Doubles, Uighur Ribeye Kawap, Blue Crab Curry Ramen, and Bunny Chow. All were delicious and original. I liked how the blue crab was not doused in spices but allowed to show its own flavor. The bunny chow was served with bread on the side and wow, what a great bread! Closest an NYC bread has come to Mumbai pav. The ribeye was perfectly pink. A small constructive criticism is that the doubles felt a little bit dry, at least to someone who's eaten actual Trini doubles which are saucy. I asked for chutneys and they provided those. And then it was great. I suggest serving chutney on the side as a default. I look forward to trying their speakeasy downstairs once it opens. The decor is elegant, very date friendly. The service attentive and fast. I predict this place will get a Michelin star in a year or two. Try it before reservations get Semma like difficult to get.

Hospitality here was top tier. Server was super sweet and broke down every dish for us, and the chef even came to the table β that kind of touch reminded me of being a guest at Bungalow. The menu is a genuine celebration of South Asian and Indian diaspora cuisine β you travel through the diaspora without actually traveling. Also a solid amount of vegetarian options on the menu, which I appreciated. On the house: champagne, doubles, deviled egg, ema datshi, dessertsβ all so good, perfect flavor to start. Khameeri roti was bussin. Melts in your mouth β the dough is started in Maine and batched for 48 hours to get that texture and flavor. Comes with house-made butter that tasted like home, and the kashmiri chilli chutney was magic. Doubles: spicy and so good, the touch of pineapple worked so well. Deviled eggs bajo were cooked to the perfect quick bite, packed with flavor. Lamb momo: really juicy and flavorful. The tamarind chutney on the side was a touch too tangy for my taste, but the momo itself delivered. Drinks: Indian Summer and the spicy nimbu pani had me sold β way better than Ambassadors. The nimbu pani is spicyyy with chillies floating in it, and Indian Summer actually

What an awesome experience! Firstly, the restaurant is beautifully designed and decorated. I respect and admire the intentional choices of every plate, glass and serving platter, all designed to reflect the spirit of the restaurant (diaspora) and of Chef Aarthi Sampath. Our meal was absolutely delicious from the fire roasted asparagus to the doubles to the choriz paoβ¦all yummy. However, the star of the show for us was the duck nihari hand pie. Iβm looking forward to returning to try the deviled egg bejo (that has received rave reviews), the oxtail bunny chow and the black rice milk soft serve. So many delicious dishes to experience!
